The japanese one did not render.

Maybe so but at least your editor didn't grunge them like most 8-bit fido editors do.

THIS is a reply with OpneXP (a Windows console prog). The
japanese line seemed to change when I created this reply.

Given that I am left to ponder the possibility of a graphical interface for fidonet if and when this ever becomes a real issue.

It will never be an issue. I am sure most people will have
embraced chat-messengers like mastadon and matrix for their
community messaging interests. Fidonet relies too much on
    cooperating anarchists. :D

I can't render them either given that there is no terminal based fonts for Japanese ... or Chinese for that matter. With terminal fonts there is a 512 character limit as things stand today. Far more than is needed for most languages. To render Japanese a gui app with the right fonts will be needed. I am not sure if there are any terminals in xorg that can handle CJK fonts but maybe. I am guessing that Firefox might be a viable alternative.

Odd, maybe it's rendering correctly for me because I'm SSH'd into my Linux console via Putty?

The only time it actually becomes an issue (or even a topic) is when we mess around with it. ;)

Did you throw "anarchists unite.." to your translator? I think the proper beginning would be: "Sadarbojoties anarhisti.." or.. "anarhisti apvienojas.."

Droši vien "!trans" projekts ir parocīgs, bet es nezinu, vai tā izmantošana uzturētu ilgstošu sarunu.

    Hey August!

there are many more plentiful people who can manage English.

These days I have my doubts. Given so-called smart devices, most people these days can only handle emojii's or whatever the kids are calling them now. Speaking of which, aren't they unicode?

Fidonet messaging has simply not reached that user-base.

No doubt. However my plan is to stick with it for as long as I can still type. My keyboards have always gotten the most usage and I plan to keep it that way. How about you?

    Life is good,
    Maurice

No. I wrote "Cooperating anarchists that can write in Latvian!" But then translating it back to english in google translate says: "With the cooperation of anarchists who can write in Latvian!" So I don't know, Latvian = 1 - Me = 0. :)

I would imagine it's probably close. I believe Michiel uses it as an external editor for Golded, if you care enough to ask someone with experience with it.

Looks to render just fine in Claws Mail on Windows 11, aside from the original when I was using slrn in a Linux console, using "Monospace Normal
    - 10", FYI. So maybe it is indeed Sylpheed specific.

    That works for me. :-)

I still have some tests to pass before things get back to normal but so far there isn't anything fatal rearing it's ugly head ... yet. The weather lately gave me a good scare but other than some roof damage and 48 hour power outage I suvrived. Also managed to do roof repairs so I am appear to be good to go until the next violence from mother nature. It can and does happen at this time of year. :-(
