• Marillion (was: YAY The echo is back!)

From Mike Powell@1:2320/107 to Nigel Reed on Tuesday, September 01, 2026 16:15:12

Marillion have never really been on my radar though I've probably only
    ever heard the one song!

Would that one song have been Kayleigh? That is the only one I have ever heard played anywhere, but it is one of my all-time favorites from the 1980s. It is awesome.

Several years later my sister loaned me one of their later albums, Fugazi, and I really couldn't get into it. I am not even sure if I listened to the whole thing or not.

How did you guess? They have another song, Lavendar but I've never heard it that I know of. I just know it from music quizes I do.

I'll have to give it a try and see if it clicks with me.

I will have to look for that one and give it a listen!

Just checked out Lavender. Not too impressive for me. It's primarily just the same four notes/chords repeated over and over, and then it crescendos to some screetching guitars. No thanks.

It had potential to be a pleasant rock "anthem", but it fails for me.

lol over 25 Beatles songs also have only 4 chords (or less) but I guess they don't have the screeching guitar endings.

If John had his way, we'd probably have had several that included Yoko screeching throughout. :D

Thankfully, they didn't let that happen.

I don't think there are comparable Beatles tunes to the marillion one. Lavender has an interesting gentle start, but then it's the same progression of chords/notes that gets tiring for me.
